Alright, campground owners and future moguls of the outdoor world, hold onto your hats (or your RVs) because we’re about to talk about the latest and greatest trend sweeping campgrounds from coast to coast. No, it’s not glamping yurts or those cute little fairy garden decorations. The hot new amenity everyone’s asking for? Pickleball. Yep, you heard that right—pickleball.
You might be scratching your head thinking, “Pickle what?” But trust me, this is not just some fad. Pickleball is like the love child of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, and it’s taking the campground scene by storm. I’m Donna Bordeaux from Campground Accounting, and as someone who’s traveled to more campgrounds than most people have seen sunsets, I can tell you this sport is a game-changer—literally.
Imagine this: you’re managing your campground, and the phone rings off the hook with the same question, “Do you have pickleball?” It’s happening everywhere. I was chatting with the office manager of a large RV resort, and she told me the number one request they get is for pickleball courts. Whether it’s kids, grandparents, or the in-betweens, everyone wants to play. And why wouldn’t they? It’s fun, it’s social, and you don’t need to be an Olympic athlete to enjoy it.
Now, I know what you’re thinking—adding a pickleball court sounds expensive and space-consuming. But here’s the deal: you don’t need to start with a whole pickleball complex. Even just one or two courts can make a huge difference. Plus, if you’ve got an old tennis court collecting dust, you’re halfway there! A quick conversion, some new lines, and voila—you’re in the pickleball business.
And if you’re tight on space? No problem. Find out where the nearest local pickleball courts are and make sure to list them in your campground’s must-see attractions. You’ve already got the local diner and grocery store on there; why not add the pickleball courts?
Campground ownership is all about staying ahead of the curve, and this is one trend you don’t want to miss out on. Adding pickleball to your amenities list could be the ace up your sleeve (or should I say paddle?). So, take a swing at it, and see how it boosts your campground’s appeal. After all, the game is already on—don’t get left out of the match!
