If you booked a hotel recently you’ve seen that for the same room you can have multiple rates that are available to you. So one of those rates usually is a non-refundable rate. It’s a locked in rate, and that’s usually the lowest price. If you’d like to have flexibility, to be able to cancel a room, that price will probably be a little bit higher. And then of course there are other packages that add on top that include other benefits along with it.
Well, it’s just a matter of time before that comes to the campground industry. And it has, a friend of mine was looking at some rates for Katherine’s landing in hot Springs, Arkansas, and noticed that they had two different rates available when she was booking a campsite, there was one rate for the best available and another for the piece of mind rate, the best available rate was a lock in if you had firm dates for your stay at their park, you got the lowest rate.
The secondary, the piece of mind rate offered the opportunity for you to cancel your reservation and get your money back up to 72 hours prior to your arrival. So it has happened. We all know that some of the booking engines that we’re using and reservation systems, cross borders and work in hotels as well as campgrounds. So it’s just a matter of time before these come to play. So you may have strong feelings, whether you like this, or don’t like it. I encourage you to take a look at it, evaluate it, determine if it’s right for you. Look at what your competition does and keep that in mind when you are starting to look around and keep that on the back burner of ideas of probably what’s to come in our industry.
