I’m Donna Bordeaux with Campground Accounting. I wanted to talk to you today about naming your campground or dealing with the name you already have. In naming your campground, one of the things you want to think about is where you’re located, what town you are in, what tourist attractions or areas you may be near. In a perfect world, you want to include those in your name, because that is how people are going to find you. So when they search the Internet, if you are near Wonderful Lake Tahoe where I am today, you’re going to find Lake Tahoe campgrounds. It’s pretty easy. However, the number one search is not going to be where I am actually camping right now, which is Zephyr Cove RV Park. It is going to be probably Tahoe Valley Campground because it has Tahoe in the name. So take a look at your SEO terms in Google and think about that when naming or marketing your campground.
Now you may say, “My campground been named for years”. It has any name, but it doesn’t have the name of the town or any tourist attraction related to where I am. What should I do? Do I need to rename my campground? No. The good news is that you get to keep that name which you’ve probably already had in place (unless you have a poor reputation and you need to start things over again and wipe the slate clean.
In that situation, keep your name, but add a Tagline. Use that in your logo. Use that in your website. Then, make sure that you have a lot of content of things to do in your area that include those tourist attractions, area communities, or cities where you’re located. Another really great example is, if you’re located outside of a major metropolitan area, do include that name in your Tagline or SEO terms.
Let’s look at this example a little closer. If you have a tagline, let’s say for example, you’re the Wagon Wheel Campground and you are located outside of Dallas, Texas. You will want to include a tagline that says “A Fine Dallas Campground”, or “Dallas’ Finest Resort”, or a “Dallas (suburb area)”, and include that in all of your marketing and all of your efforts online. Your social media posts should include that almost like it is part of your name. I would even suggest adding it to your logo if you, and if you can – do that in a sustained way. But make sure that Google can read your Tagline so it can properly index it in search and you back it up with interesting content.
So, I hope these tips help. We want to make sure that people can find your campground. I’ve been camping several times and arrived in an area and found a campground that I never heard of. Most likely it does not have anything to do with the local attractions in its name. It may have a cute name, but if it’s not cute enough for me to be able to find it. It doesn’t matter how cute it is! Use these tips in helping in naming your campground, and marketing it to make sure that customers can find you. I hope this helps you.
